According to an article over on techfreep.com there is a chance that the Large Hadron Collider “supercollider” being developed by CERN could destroy the world.
For those of use who don’t fully understand what a “supercollider” is or why we should be concerned about CERN building the largest one ever, this article may be a little alarming.
The gist is this: The supercollider sends protons shooting in opposite directions around a 16.7 mile racetrack at speeds reaching 99.999999% the speed of light. The goal is to produce a mini “big bang” when the protons collide (thus the name supercollider). One of the theoretical results of this collision is that a tiny black hole will form. The hope is that the black hole would “evaporate” just leaving something called Hawking radiation.
However, some fear that the black hole will not just “evaporate”. That could be catastrophic. If the black hole were to grow, it could spell the end of the Earth.
I for one, plan to follow this a little more closely. Get ready to hold on to your britches, because CERN is hoping to launch this sometime in 2007.

Just finished reading an article about a company called Metabolix that makes biodegradable plastic. Pretty cool stuff, but not the biggest shocker.
The real shock to me was that traditional plastic is made from oil (yep the same stuff used to make gasoline!). I had no idea, and evidently neither does 72% of the U.S. population. The article also states that 10% of the oil we import is used to make plastic. If we could use that 10% for making gasoline instead of plastic, that next trip to the gas pump might not be so painful to my wallet.
It seems that Target has picked up on this new technology and is using Metabolix to manufacture some of their gifts cards. The new cards are available in about 128 of Target stores and are made from fermented sugar instead of traditional plastic. They are also 100% biodegradable in all environments.
I really hope that other big companies pick up on this and start asking to have their products manufactured with this stuff.

I’ll be attending “An Event Apart” in Chicago with a bunch of my Duo cohorts. I’m looking forward to this. I’ve been on the list for updates for what seems like years now, and they are finally going to be having one that I can attend. If you happen to be there too, look me up.

For those who don’t know, my little sister has quadriplegic cerebral palsy. She was born CP and a multitude of other problems, and spent the first few months of her life in intensive care at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
She’s 13 now, and still struggling with the effects of the disease. She has endured many months in hospital intensive care and many surgeries. She has recently had a rod placed in her spine to help correct the curvature caused by the constant pressure from her hypertonic muscles. She’s had similar surgeries on her hips.
She’s a little trooper, and much smarter than an outsider would ever imagine. The constant spasms and tightness in her muscles don’t allow her to communicate normally. She can say some words, but it has taken her a long time to get there. You can see the frustration on her face when she has something to share, but can’t let anyone know it. She’s a little teenage girl bursting to jabber on and on, but she just can’t say what she wants.
I love my sister dearly, and would do anything I can to help. In an effort to better educate myself and others about this terrible disease, I have put up a new website at www.cerebral-palsy-articles.com. The plan is to gather as much information as possible about cerebral palsy, its symptoms, its treatments, and the effects of the disease, and post articles to this site to get the information out.
Although there is not much there now, I hope you will take a look and check back often for progress.
As always, thanks for reading.

I just launched a new site that discusses how to make money with affiliate marketing. I think the design is by far one of my favorites so far. I’m proud of the work that I have put into the site. I will also be continuing to update the site with more and more content on making money with Adsense, and affiliate marketing, and making money on the internet in general. Have a look.

Just saw that Bill Turner is not able to keep up with railstips.org and is asking if anyone would like to take it over. This would certainly be a good project for a Rails fan with some extra time to spare. If you’re interested, be sure to head on over and check it out.
John, this one especially goes out to you. I think this would be a great project for you.
UPDATE - John did decide to snatch it up. Good luck John.

It looks like a lot of the people coming to the site right now are searching for Desktop Blues. If you’re looking for a link to the sweet little flash app that was making the rounds a while back you can find it here. If you haven’t heard about it yet, you should really give it a look. It’s basically a flash mixer that lets you take some pre-built bits of blues music and string them together however you want to make you own blues songs. It really is a lot of fun, so go give it a whirl.

I’ve got a 1GB stick of memory for an Apple PowerBook 1.67GHz for sale. Here’s a link to the site for all the details. http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/PartsInfo.asp?ktcpartno=KTA-PB533/1G
I will sell it for considerably cheaper than any price I could find online. Send me an email to jaime AT amorphonet DOT com if you’re interested.

I just ran across this hilarious stop-motion film on Buzz Patrol. It portrays Emperor Palpatine receiving the call from Darth Vader that the Death Star has been destroyed. Absolutely hilarious.

I have just released the finished design of the new Whiteford Kenworth website. This is a site I developed in conjunction with Mike Macri and Connecting Point of Indiana. I’m rather fond of the design, particularly the home page, and hope you all like it as well. I guess it’s time to update my portfolio at Amorphonet.
